Following a freak electric storm, comic Book artist Sketch Turner was working on his strip, suddenly finds himself flung inside of his own comic by one of his creations, the villian Mortus, who pulled himself into the real world. It is now up to Sketch to go and stop Mortus in the comic to thwart his real world ambitions. However, Mortus will not take this lying down, and will draw many opponents to keep Sketch from his goal.
Visually superb, as per the name, the entire game looks like it is on the pages of a comic book, even comic style speech bubbles. However, there are a few graphical glitches that may occur when there are too many things on screen, but that does not happen too often. All of the music is of a great quality, but nearly each one sounds similar to the other ones, and will get really repetitive quick. Unlike the music, this game has a variety of sound effects, from punching a metal door, a bomb exploding, to a Kool-Aidesque “Oh Yeah!”. Comix Zone is a fairly short, but difficult game, health is hard to replenish and death means “Game Over Man!” which you will probably see many times. Do not worry about getting too far to fail, for each chapter you beat, Mortus will give you an extra chance, claiming that it “was too easy”. A good game if you like Beat’em’ups, and still good if you don’t really play the genre.
